The Funky Appliance Company is celebrating after its Funky Toaster was crowned the winner in the ‘Best New Product Small Domestic Appliances’ category at the prestigious ERT 2021 awards in London yesterday.
The ERT Awards, which is now in its 15th year, take place annually and celebrate achievements in the electrical retail sector. The Funky Appliance Company was crowned winner of the coveted ‘Best New Product Small Domestic Appliances’ category, fighting off stiff competition from Morphy Richards, Dualit, Hoover, Beko and Roidmi.
The Funky Appliance Company, based in West Sussex, takes small domestic appliances and applies a funky twist to them. The independent British brand, which was co-founded by husband-and-wife team Joe and Sadie Sillett, launched their Funky Toaster in February 2021. The team has raised £1million of investment to date and the company has three core products: a Funky Toaster, a Funky Kettle and a Funky Iron.
The four-slice Funky Toaster, which received the ‘Best New Product SDA’ status at the ERT Awards on Monday 6th December, features slots that are wider and deeper than most toasters on the market. Bagels, waffles and even thick-sliced bread are browned to perfection and the variable, independent browning controls ensure every slice is done exactly to the user’s preference. The toaster also features a handy high-lift function making it quick and easy to remove smaller slices.
Other accolades The Funky Toaster also has include “Good Housekeeping Approved”, Ideal Home Magazine’s “Best 4-Slice Toaster” and the Independent’s Indy Best “Best Toaster for Tall Bread”.
Joe Sillett, Co-Founder and CEO of The Funky Appliance Company, said: “Winning this ERT 2021 award was a momentous day for our business and means that 2022 will now be even more exciting. We cannot wait to see sales in Funky Toasters increase significantly and for new customers of our Funky Toaster to love the product as much as existing customers do.”
Rob Sutton, Managing Director of distributor RKW commented, “I have been in the appliance industry for 30 years now and I have never known a newcomer like Funky to win such a prestigious award. It speaks volumes about their Funky Toaster which is a standout product. This will propel Funky up onto the next level, which is very exciting indeed."
The news comes as Joe and Sadie launched their seventh funding round on Seedrs, which is already at 51% of its target.
Sadie Sillett, Co-Founder of The Funky Appliance Company, said: “We look forward to getting to 100% of our target and beyond as we prepare for a really exciting 2022.”
The Funky Appliance Company recently signed a 3-year exclusive global license deal with Europe’s leading SDA (Small Domestic Appliances) and Housewares distributor RKW (Retail Knows Why) based in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire. Distribution of the Funky goods is now gathering pace with 81 retailers in the UK and Ireland stocking the product range, as well as several leading online UK retailers.
